Pacific Rim 2 Officially Gears Up to Cancel Another Apocalypse – John Boyega shared the news towards the end of the week.
Here’s a spot of good news for your weekend, TMSers–remember Pacific Rim 2? Well, it’s officially started filming as of this week! The announcement was made by none other than director Steven DeKnight, who shared a picture from day one of shooting in Australia from his Twitter account–and also confirmed by the film’s star John Boyega, who posted his own pic of his script to his Instagram. (Check out those initials embossed on the cover! Pretty sweet.)
Thanks to DeKnight and Boyega, we also know now that the movie won’t simply be called Pacific Rim 2, because who wants to settle for a boring number tacked on to the end of a sequel’s title? No, the film will actually be titled Pacific Rim: Maelstrom–which personally, I am here for.
DeKnight took some time away from filming to answer some fan questions and reveal a few more details about the upcoming movie–they’re currently shooting in Australia, but they’ll also be filming in China eventually. He didn’t confirm any other casting information apart from his main trio of actors–in addition to Boyega, Scott Eastwood and Cailee Spaeny will be heading up the sequel–but early yesterday actor Nick Tarabay was added to the cast. Tarabay and DeKnight had previously worked on the Starz series Spartacus.
Given that this is a pretty tumultuous time right now, I think I can speak for many of us when I say that we really appreciate the giant robot hug DeKnight offered up with his reveal of this news. We could definitely use a group of new jaeger pilots to cancel this apocalypse.
