Jake “The Snake” Roberts Diagnosed With Cancer
Former WWE professional wrestler Jake “The Snake” Roberts recently announced that he has cancer. On Sunday, Feb. 23, Roberts who is best known for his stint in the World Wrestling Federation, confirmed the news with TMZ
The 58-year-old Gainesville, TX native revealed that he has a cancerous tumor behind one of his knees. As the tumor gradually began growing into his muscle, it was suggested that he have emergency surgery to have the tissue removed.
Roberts told the publication that he noticed the tumor, which is the size of a half dollar, some time last month. His growing concern about the mysterious growth led him to have it checked. Once doctors ran tests, the results revealed that the growth was positive for cancer.
The publication reports that Roberts is scheduled to have surgery on Tuesday, Feb. 25. But, surgery won’t stop the semi-retired wrestler from doing what he loves. On Mar. 14, Roberts will return to Jersey Championship Wrestling regardless of his medical condition – cancer or not.
He verbally expressed his determination to go on with life regardless of any medical concerns he may have. “If the devil can’t defeat me, cancer doesn’t stand a chance in hell! Pray for sick children who face this horrible disease ’cause The Snake will be just fine.”
He also made it clear that he will be in attendance the week of WrestleMania 30 for the WWE Hall of Fame ceremony. Roberts upcoming induction into the Hall of Fame is a prestigious honor that he definitely has no plans of missing. The ceremony will take place at the New Orleans Arena on Saturday, April 5.
WrestleMania 30 is scheduled for Sunday, April 6 at the Mercedes Benz Superdome in New Orleans, LA. The WWE Network announced on Thurs. Feb. 20 that the big event will be hosted by Hulk Hogan.
