Ivanka Trump Says Black History Month Is About “All Americans” & That Went Over About as Well as You’d Expect

To commemorate Black History Month, Ivanka Trump did the bare minimum: she tweeted.

As a public figure and official adviser to Donald Trump, it would be nice if the examples she provided of celebrated black figures went beyond an elementary school history lesson—not knocking Harriet Tubman, Rosa Parks, and Dr. King, but does Ivanka Trump know the names of any other black American heroes?

Still, Ivanka couldn’t even get through a single sentence without dismissing the purpose of her tweet, stating the “resolve to continue to bring greater equality, dignity, and opportunity to all Americans, regardless of race or background.”

Ivanka Trump couldn’t even get ONE DAY into Black History Month without pandering to the All Live Matter base who feel left out when a thing isn’t designed specifically for them.

This did not go over well.

Did Ivanka just make #BlackHistoryMonth about ALL Americans? What is wrong with her? Plus, did she use "sojourners" in the correct context ????

People are also not here for her complicity regarding some of her father-boss’ past statements and actions, specifically regarding his stance on last year’s violence in Charlottesville, when Trump said there were some “very fine people on both sides.” Remember, one of those sides was made up of white supremacists who murdered someone.

For his part, Trump the elder also got off to a bad start this Black History Month. Last year, if you remember, he started the month by saying Frederick Douglass, the long-deceased abolitionist, is “an example of somebody who’s done an amazing job and is being recognized more and more.”

This year, he kicked off the month by giving a speech in which he criticized the Congressional Black Caucus for not applauding during his State of the Union address, especially when he mentioned that black unemployment was at a record low.

Speaking at the Republican congressional retreat, he said, “And when I made that statement the other night, there was zero movement from the Democrats. They sat there, stone cold, no smile, no applause. You would have thought that on that one, they would’ve sort of at least clapped even a little bit.”

That’s right, Trump thinks black lawmakers should smile more. And also be grateful to him for the job growth spurred by the Obama administration. Which, about that …
